Political opinion: Costs cut for haulage firms
In response to the war in Iran, the Chancellor is reducing costs for lorry drivers.

Welcoming the news local MP Alex Mayer MP said: "Trump-flation has hit the local logistics sector hard, so this move is positive." Over the next year, when hauliers renew their road tax, they will pay just £1.
That's a saving £600 for a typical heavy lorry and up to £912 for the biggest trucks.
The haulage sector in Dunstable & Leighton Buzzard constituency supports 5000 jobs in transport and logistics locally
Alex Mayer MP said: “Whether it’s apples, benches or clothes, most people don’t think about how things actually get from A to B. But haulage drivers keep supermarket shelves stocked and businesses supplied across the country.
"That's especially the case in this constituency, sitting in the heart of the 'Golden Logistics Triangle'. Trump's ill-thought through war in Iran has pushed up prices. It is vital that we get shipping flowing freely again through the Straits of Hormuz-and the UK is playing its role in the international effort to achieve this.
"Our dependence on fossil fuels has left us vulnerable to international conflict and the whims of dictators. That is why I also support increasing the amount of home grown clean power. But while we get there, we need action like we've seen today. So I welcome that the Government is cutting costs for hauliers who keep Dunstable, Leighton Buzzard, Houghton Regis and the whole country moving."
