UK’s 250th banking hub coming to Leighton Buzzard

A banking hub will open in Leighton Buzzard, it was announced today (Thursday 29 January). Local MP Alex Mayer says she is delighted by the news.
Labour's election manifesto set out plans for 350 banking hubs nationwide. Today’s announcement marks the 250th set to open.
Now a suitable location will be identified and Alex Mayer MP says she is pushing for it to be as central as possible.
The hub will be staffed by Post Office workers. Residents will be able to make withdrawals and deposits, check balances and pay bills. Local businesses who use cash will also benefit.
In the first month she was elected, Ms Mayer pressed the Treasury on banking hubs and the MP says she was always determined Leighton Buzzard would get one. She has continually pressed ministers and LINK about securing one for the town.
She said: “I’m delighted that Leighton Buzzard will be getting its own banking hub. This is really positive news for everyone that cares about the high street. Residents will be able to withdraw and deposit cash and speak to someone face to face. While many like the convenience of online banking, I know for a lot of people and businesses, cash is still king. Around a quarter of local residents use notes and coins at least once a week.”
