Borrow and Buzz event will help stock town's Library of Things
A Borrow and Buzz Giving Day is being held on Saturday ahead of launching Leighton Buzzard’s Library of Things. (November 8)
The Borrow and Buzz event will be held between 10.30am and 1.30pm at the CultureCo:LB space in the Market Square. The aim will be to acquire stock for the town’s Library of Things, which is due to open in the new year.
There are now more than 100 Library Of Things or Tool Libraries across the country with formats adapted to suit the communities they serve.
The Leighton Buzzard branch will be open to all residents of the town and surrounding villages with members able to borrow items that take up precious space in their homes but are under used.

A spokesperson said: “Have you ever thought that you would like to try your hand at sewing but don't have a sewing machine? Borrow one. Do you need to tidy the garden for a landlord's inspection but don't have a lawnmower? Borrow one. So we are looking to collect a variety of items that will make it possible to loan all sorts of stuff to all our members.
"We do have a wish list, but we will consider any item in clean working order with the exception of anything petrol or diesel driven or something that needs specialist training to be safe to use.”
Jennie, the club's treasurer and co-lead, said people are invited to bring items along to the CultureCo:LB space on Saturday for assessment. “There will be some forms to sign so that we can show proper ownership of the item and all electrical items will be PAT tested before acceptance,” she added.
"There will be tea, coffee and biscuits available with activities such as giant noughts and crosses or maybe print a special Christmas gift tag for someone and there will be pictures to colour in for all age groups. Even if you don't have anything to donate we would love you to pop in to find out more about Borrow and Buzz.”
Culture Co:LB is an umbrella organisation representing voices across Leighton Buzzard’s arts, culture, heritage, health, education, and enterprise sectors.
A spokesperson added: “It is great news that Culture Co:LB has had a short extension to the lease of this fabulous meanwhile space. It would have made an ideal space for our Library of Things to get started in. The way the space has been drawing people in is a testament to the team running it and only emphasises the need for a permanent space within Leighton Buzzard to host community projects and share new skills and hobbies.”
