Elvis tribute night and silent auction in Leighton Buzzard will raise funds for Dementia UK

A Leighton Buzzard woman is holding an Elvis tribute night to support Dementia UK after her mum was diagnosed with the disease.

Julie Potter, 58, is inviting residents to get All Shook Up and dance along to Danny Graceland at Brooklands Residents Club, Garden Leys from 7pm on Saturday, June 22.

The charity has supported the family following her mother Stella's diagnosis, and with only two tickets currently remaining, Julie is appealing for families to donate online via JustGiving or support her silent auction – after all, It's Now or Never!

She told the LBO: "Dementia UK are there if people need support; with Dad they are there if he needs to find out things. They are there to support the people and families around the person who has been diagnosed.

"A lot of people suffer behind closed doors. It's hard.

"But if the charity don't get funded, they won't be able to help the people who need it."

Stella suffered a stroke in 2013, and as the years progressed it became apparent that she was forgetting things and repeating herself.

She was eventually diagnosed with dementia in 2019, but is still able to live at home with her husband, Ted Bradbury.

Explaining the impact of the disease, Julie said: "Some days my mum knows who you are, and some she doesn't. She does go back a long time, and talk about family who aren't around anymore.

"But one thing I will say, if you put music on, she can sing all the words! She loves Elvis and Cliff Richard."

Julie Can't Help Falling In Love with music either, and after seeing Danny perform earlier this year, she asked him if he would star at a charity night for her.

The singer has helped Julie to organise the event, which will also include a raffle, as well as a silent auction.
