Leighton Buzzard rugby club fundraiser for new posts passes £1,000 mark

A fundraiser for new posts for Leighton Buzzard Rugby Club has passed the £1,000 mark.

The posts on pitches three and four at the club, which is based at Wright’s Meadow in Stanbridge, were damaged due to recent bad weather, and are in need of replacing.

A set of new rugby posts typically cost £3,000, and as the club had not budgeted for this cost, they have set up a GoFundMe page to help them raise funds for the new posts.

Club member James Clarke told the LBO: "The base of two sets of posts have rusted due to rainfall and high winds.

"We have had these sets of posts for more than 20 years.

"Due to the pitches being out of action we have been unable to host multiple home matches, we are losing revenue and we are losing areas to safely train."

The page, which has been active for four days, has raised £1,729 towards a target of £4,000.

The club boasts two men’s teams, an under-17s academy, a mini junior section featuring up to 250 boys and girls across age groups ranging from fledgling to under-16s, a girls section and touch rugby training teams.
