Prepare for the fright of your life at Wingrave Scarecrow Festival

Get into the spirit for a chance to win a prize at Wingrave’s popular Bank Holiday Scarecrow Festival.

The popular event invites visitors to walk around the village of Wingrave and admire up to 20 scarecrows featured as part of this year’s festival which is based on haunted theme.

It offers a great outdoor activity with fun for all the family and the opportunity to vote for your favourite scarecrows and enter a prize draw to win a £20 Amazon voucher.

Maps of the scarecrow route costing £4 can be purchased from the village shop with all proceeds going to Wingrave CE school PTFA.

The event will run from Saturday, midday to 6pm, Sunday, 8am to 2pm and Monday from 8am to 2pm, with scarecrows out on display from the morning of May 2.

Votes should be registered by close of play at the village shop on Monday, May 4. The winning entry will be announced on Facebook the same evening.

A spokesperson for the event said: “We love welcoming you to our village to enjoy the scarecrows. It is however a small village so we ask that you park off road and not on Winslow Road or Leighton Road which are main roads through the village.”

"PTFA all funds go to support extras for the children in school ie library books, Lego spike, peace garden, and a playground sun shade.

“As in previous years once we have the final numbers next week we will design and print the maps for sale in the week running up to the event. Anyone willing to take part will be able to turn up on the day and buy a map from the local shop or sports field.”

Off road parking is available at the following: > Wingrave Sports and Social club (HP22 4QB) (maps will be available on Saturday (from 2pm) and Sun (from 12pm) to buy from the upstairs bar. > Wingrave CE School (HP22 4QG) – less than 5 minutes’ walk to shop to buy maps. > Macintrye School (HP22 4PA) – pop a note on your dashboard that you are attending the scarecrow festival (less than 5 mins walk to shop to buy maps)

Last year’s winner was ‘Helen Housby's Goal Gets England The Gold’ to reflect the sports theme.
