The Alien Autopsy Scandal: How a second grainy video was shot on a Bedfordshire farm

If you’re of a certain age (holds hand up), you’ll no doubt remember the alien autopsy of the 90s.

It caused a global sensation at the time with grainy footage – supposedly from the 1940s at the Roswell crash site in New Mexico – depicting an autopsy of an alien creature.

No-one could quite believe their eyes as the big bug-eyed being was sliced open by medics in white suits. Could it be real? Could the truth really be out there?

But by the time a legit movie came out in 2006, depicting how it all came about – starring, would you believe, Ant & Dec (yes, them) – the cat was well and truly out of the bag and the whole debacle was revealed as a ruse.

So, what’s this got to do with Bedfordshire?

Well, believe it or not, a new three-part documentary has just come out on Sky Documentaries and our county gets a namecheck.

As well as the original infamous fake video – shot in a flat in Camden by Ray Santilli, Gary Schofield and filmmaker Spyros Melaris – another fake autopsy was filmed in the 90s around the same time.

According to video producer Keith Bateman, in part three of the doco, he was asked by Ray to shoot the video himself – something Ray vehemently disputes.

Keith set about filming the autopsy – which is shown in the documentary – in a barn at a Bedfordshire farm in 1993. And it’s fair to say, it looks bad.

Trouble is, by his own admission, it was only tongue-in-cheek and when Keith showed it off, he claims it was rejected by Ray who said it was a load of rubbish.

Again Ray disputes he even asked Keith to do it but it does leave you wondering where in Bedfordshire it was shot.
