Josie is new ladies captain

Qualified tennis coach Josie Sheridan has been installed as ladies captain of Leighton Buzzard Golf Club, a decade after taking up the sport.

Born in the Philippines, Josie left Manilla in 1986 to work in the UK, taking up tennis with daughter Anna and playing in tournaments around the country before qualifying as a tennis coach.

Captaining junior and successful Hertfordshire County and club teams for ten years, Josie was offered a full time post at a boarding school for girls, working there for 18 years as coach and coordinator.

Although she retired last year, she continues to officiate at Tennis Association events, whilst pursuing her new sporting love for golf, joining Mentmore where husband Peter was a member until its closure a decade ago when they both joined the Leighton Buzzard club in Plantation Road along with many other exiled Mentmore members. She succeeds Steph Howlett on the completion of her successful year.

Josie, supported by incoming vice captain Avril Stimpson, started her year as ladies captain successfully teeing off over a mini tennis net before a competition won by Angela Samuels, Jane Tizzard and Ros Miles with 71 points.

During her year in office, Josie will be raising funds to donate to Macmillan Cancer and Freddie and Friends, a Leighton charity which supports local children with special needs.
