A fantastic start: Visitors enchanted as Ascott House art exhibition opens its doors

The ‘Ascott Artists’ exhibition is officially underway, having launched with a bustling private view on Monday that saw art lovers and garden enthusiasts flock to the historic estate. Running until 17th June, this Bucks Art Weeks event has transformed the Cricket Pavilion at Ascott House and Gardens into a welcoming gallery showcasing 15 talented creatives from across the region.

Now that the doors are open, early visitors have been quick to praise the experience. One attendee at the launch party remarked: ‘The quality of the art on display is wonderful. It’s such a lovely idea to combine an art exhibition with a day out in these glorious gardens - it makes for the perfect summer afternoon.’

The collective showcase, situated right next door to the estate's tea room, features a wide array of disciplines. Visitors can explore the elegant glasswork of Kathryn Flegg, intricate jewellery by Corzo & Wood, and bold sculptural ceramics from Sally Dorrity. The collection also highlights exceptional two-dimensional work, including evocative paintings by Suzanne Southerton and playful drawings by Sarah Cripps.

Crucially, the exhibition is also a brilliant platform for the collective's talented younger artists who are making a big impression this year. Visitors can enjoy contemporary ceramics by James Aldous, atmospheric photography by Joe Byerley, vibrant illustrations by Izzy Jones, and emotive paintings by Millie Sawyer.

The event highlights a rare opportunity to meet the makers in person, discuss their creative processes, or find a unique piece of work to take home.

Another visitor commented: ‘It’s incredibly special to stand in such a heritage setting and chat directly with the artists about how they made their work. It feels less like a formal gallery and more like an inspiring, relaxed celebration.’

The exhibition is open daily until 17th June from 11.30am to 5pm, making it an effortless addition to a stroll through Ascott's manicured grounds. And as part of the wider Bucks Art Weeks festival, visitors can also pick up a free loyalty card at the pavilion. If you visit five festival venues this June, you will qualify for a prize draw to win £100 to spend on art. To plan your perfect creative summer day out, visit www.bucksartweeks.org.uk.
