From the sofa to the start line my London Marathon journey
Leighton Buzzard resident Emma Beaney is taking on one of the world's most iconic running events – the 2027 London Marathon – to raise vital funds for Make-A-Wish UK.

Emma's journey has been named "From the Sofa to the Start Line", reflecting how far she has already come.
Having lost nearlt three stone and committed to improving her health, she decided to set herself a challenge that once seemed impossible: completing 26.2 miles through the streets of London.

Rather than simply aiming to finish the marathon, Emma hopes her journey will inspire others to believe that no goal is too big, regardless of where they are starting from. Her story is one of determination, resilience and the belief that small, consistent steps can lead to extraordinary achievements.
Emma is running in support of Make-A-Wish UK, a charity that grants life-changing wishes for children living with critical illnesses. Through her fundraising, she hopes to help create unforgettable experiences for children and their families during some of the most challenging times in their lives.
Alongside her marathon training, Emma is organising a variety of fundraising events within the local community, including afternoon teas, raffles and other activities, with every penny raised helping Make-A-Wish UK continue its incredible work.
Emma is also documenting her marathon journey on social media, sharing the highs, the lows and the reality of training as someone who never considered themselves a runner. By being open and honest about her progress, she hopes to encourage others to take the first step towards their own goals, whatever they may be.
Members of the public who would like to support Emma's London Marathon challenge can donate through her fundraising page or attend one of her upcoming fundraising events.
