Local men take on 80‑mile charity walk for Help for Heroes
Another One for the Towpath is a significant personal commitment made by five men who are stepping away from their normal daily lives—taking unpaid leave, using annual leave, and putting work, family routines, and personal comfort on hold—to raise vital funds for Help for Heroes. This challenge represents time, effort, and determination given freely in support of those who have served our country and continue to face challenges long after service has ended.

On the 27 May 2026, the group will undertake an 80‑mile walk over four consecutive days, following the canal towpath from Birmingham to Milton Keynes as Part 1: The Long Stretch. They are not professional endurance walkers, but ordinary men choosing to test themselves physically and mentally for a cause they care deeply about turning every mile into meaningful support for others.
For two of the men, this challenge is especially personal. Both have served and understand firsthand that service does not end when the uniform comes off. They know the physical demands, have seen the unseen struggles, and recognize how difficult the transition to civilian life can be. Help for Heroes represents reassurance and continued support for those who have given so much, and this walk is their way of giving something back to that community.

The challenge concludes on Sunday 31 May 2026 with Part 2: The Last Crawl, when the group is joined by the Leighton Buzzard crew for the final stretch from Milton Keynes to Leighton Buzzard. This becomes a true community effort, with planned stops along the towpath at Pear Tree Bridge, The Plough, The Red Lion, The Chequers, The Swan, The Three Locks, The Globe, and Crooked Crow Bar, before finishing together at The Golden Bell. Each stop marks progress, shared support, and renewed determination to raise even more funds for Help for Heroes.
This challenge is not about recognition or personal achievement. It is about sacrifice, solidarity, and using time, effort, and resilience to support others.
The team has set a fundraising target of £5,000. Donations can be made easily online by scanning the QR code displayed on event materials or by contributing via the group’s online GoFundMe page. All donations are sincerely appreciated—whether large or small. Every contribution plays an important role in supporting the vital work of Help for Heroes and helps ensure that veterans and service personnel receive the care, recovery, and assistance they deserve.
Thank you for supporting this challenge and helping us walk on for a cause that truly matters.
