Tough Photographic Challenge
Producing a picture that depicts an aspect of Grovebury Road
In addition to formal competitions, Leighton Buzzard Photographic Club sets regular challenges to encourage members to get creative and produce new pictures.

We enjoyed another interesting evening on Wednesday April 15 as we reviewed the results of another tough creative assignment – to “Produce a picture that depicts an aspect of Grovebury Road”.
As usual, club members rose to the challenge with a variety of subjects – including the cement works (particularly popular), various parts of various commercial buildings, some exterior staircases, cars (including light trails at night), the speed camera, some CCTV etc cameras, and more – presented in a variety of styles and genres.

The assembled members critiqued each image as they were paired off, and voted for (or not), in a knockout competition. So, there was much discussion of the relative merits of images and many helpful suggestions for improvement.
And, with such a diverse collection of pictures, there was also some difficult vote-casting. How do you decide between a night shot of Travis Perkins and a creatively rendered set of window reflections?
After all the discussion and voting, the winning image was a classic black and white image of “The Cement Plant” produced by Graham Meers. In a close final of the knockout, this just pipped some atmospheric “Stairs” by Paul Dimitiou.
We are always keen to share our passion for photography and we provide a warm welcome for new members at our meetings at Greenleas School on Derwent Road. We run a varied programme of activities for photographers of all levels. See our website at lbpc.org.uk for details and join us soon to unleash your own creativity.
