Following a successful inaugural concert, branch chairman receives certificate of acknowledgement.

At the recent Committee meeting of the Leighton Buzzard Branch of the RBL, Branch chairman; Stuart Clarke was awarded a branch certificate of "Acknowledgement"

Stuart assumed the role of Branch Chairman just over 12 months ago. During that time, he has introduced a number of positive changes, encouraged new members and worked to raise the branch profile in the Community.

Initially we had the introduction of the Breakfast Club, this has grown into a monthly community event (not just for members). He brought the former RBL Band of Bucks, here to Leighton Buzzard. Now the Bedfordshire Band of the RBL. In doing so their numbers have grown and performances have followed.

This year though, Stuart had the vision that we could launch the annual Poppy Appeal a little different.

His "lightbulb" moment being The Poppy Prom Concert. Bringing together a 'last night at the Proms'-style concert together with the traditional RBL Remembrance Service.

So Stuart set out on his goal and journey. Arrange a venue; Centre of Town - All Saints Church (Home of Branch Chaplain; Prebendary David). Arrange a Band; Leighton Linslade Concert Band. Let's try a choir? Female choir - Chanteuses. Let's try a couple of Legion Standards, 12 in number from Beds/Bucks/Herts.

And so it was all set, a date chosen to tie in with the Poppy Appeal. All it needed now was promote and sell tickets.

Stuart had a couple of sleepless nights, but supported by his wife Julie and the team, everything came together.

Hoping that the concert would see maybe 100 to 150 people. Little did he think there would be well over 200 people (standing room only) joining Town Mayor; Cllr David Bligh, for an amazing evening.

So in acknowledgement of Stuart's drive, enthusiasm and ability to bring this whole event together for the first time. The branch were proud to present Stuart with his certificate.

Work has already started on next year's concert, October 18, 2025.
