These are the locations expected to flood as Storm Christoph brings more heavy downpours

Numerous flood warnings are currently in place across England, with Storm Christoph forecast to bring further torrential downpours to the country over the next few days.

The Met Office has warned that persistent heavy rain is set to lead to significant accumulations in some areas, which could lead to flooding.

A Met Office amber weather warning for rain has been issued for parts of northern, central and eastern England.

The amber warning area includes Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield, Wakefield, Lincoln, Nottingham, Leicester and Peterborough and is in place for 6am on Tuesday (19 Jan) until midday on Thursday (21 Jan).

For areas covered by the amber warning, rainfall could reach up to 200mm in parts of the southern Pennines and northern Peak District, and 40-70mm could be seen more widely.

Separate yellow warnings for rain are also in place, covering Northern Ireland, Wales, southern Scotland and the rest of England.

There are 10 flood warnings currently in place for England, which means “flooding is expected - immediate action required.”

These are the locations of the flood warnings:

Some of these warnings are in place due to high levels of water due to previous rainfalls, with Storm Christoph to bring further downpours this week.

According to Gov.uk, this level of flood warning means there are certain steps you need to take in order to prepare, which are:

  • turn off gas, water and electricity
  • move things upstairs or to safety
  • move family, pets and car to safety

You can also find out if you’re in an area at risk from flooding by entering your postcode into the location finder.

In many flood risk areas, you can also sign up for flood warnings. These warn of the risk of flooding from rivers, the sea and groundwater.

You will be alerted by phone, email or text when flooding is expected. However, it’s worth noting that flood warnings and alerts are not available in all areas.
